History
After decades of struggle led by countless freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Bhagat Singh, Subhas Chandra Bose and many others, India gained independence from British rule on 15 August 1947. Jawaharlal Nehru delivered the famous “Tryst with Destiny” speech on the eve of independence.
